DJ Premier Thinks Drake & J.Cole "Brought Back Lyricism," Hopes To Work With Them

Drake may have been the one bowing to Premier, but the respect and praise was returned by the legendary producer

While DJ Premier is working with the usual suspects on his upcoming compilation Get Used To Us, he is looking to branch out with some newcomers in the future.
“I saw Drake at the Yankee Stadium [concert with Jay-Z and Eminem for their Home & Home Tour] and he [was] just like bowing and all that,” Premier told XXL. “I’m like, ‘Nah you ain’t gotta do that, man.’ And he’s like, ‘Dude, I wanna work with you.’ And I was like, ‘Dude, I wanna work with you.’”  The Texas native may not share a lot of fans or styles with the Toronto artist, but you can count him as a fan. “He brought lyricism back. For a 22-year-old man, he brought lyricism back. When [Gang Starr's] Step In The Arena came out, I was 22-years-old. And I just thought about it, I was like, Damn, I was a youngster. I wasn’t 30, 31. I was 22 and coming with heat. And that’s why I like that he’s bringing stuff back."
Drake wasn't the only young emcee to catch Premo's ear and gain his respect. “J. Cole, I like that he’s bringing lyrics back,” he said of the Roc Nation emcee/producer.   “Everything doesn’t have to be super, over-lyrical, but we do pride ourselves on cats that can spit, because [rap music] was always a competition about who got the dopest rhymes.”

Teddy Pendergrass Family Feud Over Singer’s Estate

The son and widow of late R&B legend Teddy Pendergrass are locked in a bitter feud for control over the crooner’s cash-strapped estate.
Teddy Pendergrass II and the singer’s second wife, Joan Pendergrass, are quietly fighting over what’s left of the “Wake Up Everybody” hitmaker’s assets and the drama has been further complicated by conflicting wills produced by both sides since the crooner died of colon cancer earlier this year, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Pendergrass’ legacy has been marred by depleted finances in the months following his death. A bank foreclosed on his Penn Valley, Pennsylvania home over the summer and the property is slated for to go up for sale next month. The estate is also facing an outstanding car loan and a lawsuit filed by a former songwriting partner.
Teddy’s son, Teddy Pendergrass II, claims a will dated May 2009 names him as executor and sole beneficiary. Joan Pendergrass, who married the singer after whirlwind romance in 2008, claims a later document, on which she signed her name as the singer’s attorney, gives her control.
Attorneys for both sides met with a judge last week, but failed to reach a compromise.
